The Art and Science of Sublimation

Sublimation is a process where a solid material transitions directly into a gas without passing through a liquid state, typically involving heat and pressure. In the context of creating personalized products and customized gifts, sublimation is used to transfer dye onto various surfaces, such as fabrics, ceramics, and metals. This process requires a special sublimation ink and a heat press that applies the necessary conditions for the dye to turn into gas, bond with the substrate, and then solidify, creating vibrant, durable images. Polyester fabrics and polymer-coated materials are most compatible with sublimation, as they effectively absorb the gaseous dye and provide long-lasting results. This method is popular for producing customized clothing, mugs, phone cases, and other personalized items due to its ability to produce high-quality, full-color prints.
