Challenge Essenza Di Lusso faced low adoption of its home fragrance line after a buzzworthy Dubai debut. The product—positioned as an extension of the brand’s artisanal perfumes—wasn’t translating into repeat retail sales locally or online. Consumers appreciated the brand story but hesitated to buy scented home products without experiencing them first; distribution channels and in-store trial opportunities were limited, and marketing spend had delivered awareness but not conversion.
Design process Innovatrix conducted rapid qualitative research with loyal customers and store staff to identify friction points in the purchase journey. Insights revealed a single, solvable barrier: lack of tactile experience and confidence in scent selection for the home environment. The team prioritized a low-cost, fast-to-implement sampling program. Design steps included:
Creating a curated fragrance trial pack that showcased three complementary home scents in travel-size vials, packaged in an elegant, on-brand sleeve to reflect luxury positioning.
Producing mini sample vials (complimentary with purchases) sized for immediate at-home testing, with clear usage and pairing suggestions.
Integrating sampling into both e-commerce (automated inclusion with qualifying orders and checkout prompts) and in-store experiences (sample stations and takeaway packs).
Training sales staff and customer service to use samples as a conversion and retention tool, and setting up simple analytics to track sample-to-purchase conversion and repeat-buy behavior.
Results The sampling program drove measurable commercial and customer outcomes: overall revenue grew 200%, home fragrance sales rose 140%, and customer engagement and loyalty improved through higher repeat purchase rates and positive feedback. The trial pack and complimentary minis reduced purchase hesitation, increased successful scent matches, and amplified word-of-mouth and social sharing.
